Ombili began its work approximately 200 km north of its current location. In Omauni, near the Agolan border.

Klaus-Jochen Mais-Rische made his farm Hedwigslust available to the project.

They started a garden and the San people built their own huts in Ombili. Then afterwards they started building the community center, the school, a workshop, few apartments for teachers and employees.

Rooms for practical training were being completed. The cultural center was ceremoniously opened. This is followed by a nature trail (Bushman Trail) and the replica of the traditional huts for tourist activities.

Ombili lost the lease for Ondera and Kumewa (approx. 10,000 hectares), has to sell the herd of cattle and create new accommodation for the employees living on Ondera on the Hedwigslust farm. Almost the entire garden of several hectares fell victim to the frost.

The long-term restructuring that began in 2009 was continuing and showing success. The policy of increasing the own share in the generation of financial resources was bearing fruit. The prerequisites for creating a new herd of cattle started taking shape.

The system of Ombili workshops were expanded. Now, in addition to the repair workshop, there was a workshop for handicrafts, a workshop for paper and textile printing in spatial connection with the sewing workshop, a garden workshop for marketing garden products and a bakery within the boarding school kitchen also for the production of marketable products.

The kindergarten was at the height of reconstruction and renovation. Two new group rooms a were created.

Joint activities with the residents to improve the infrastructure and quality of life were in full swing. Residential houses were provided with concrete floors, walls plastered, old houses torn down and replaced by new ones.

  • Axel Rothauge (agri consult, Okanhandja), agricultural specialist, visits Ombili and conducts a comprehensive garden and farm analysis.
